purgatory

I am still in Riverside until Thursday to finish teaching, but my pup and my husband are already settling in to our new house in Santa Fe. While I am very sad to leave all of my friends and family in California, I am itching to get back and start my new life. I really miss my pooch.

Oh, and my husband, I miss him too.

Scarlett doesn't live here anymore

We've officially moved to Santa Fe - sort of.

clothing exchange

My friend Catherine held one of her semi-annual "clothing exchanges" last Sunday. The get-together served as a sort of going away party for me, because I was able to see lots of friends and catch up before we make the big move to Santa Fe. For those of you who have never been, a "clothing exchange" is an event where a bunch of women (or men) get together and bring clothes they no long want and put them into piles and everyone gets a chance to pick up some "new" clothes. We give whatever is left over to charity. I was able to give away lots of clothes and scored an excellent pair of khakis and a couple of shirts. I hear you can do the same thing with yarn - a "stash exchange". Sounds pretty sweet.

Cat modeling some of the "prizes"
Angie braving layers in 110 degree heat.
I think Caroline decided against this one because of the impossibility of undergarments.
I acctually brought this red dress which belonged to my step-mom's sister-in-law, but decided to take it back because it's costume party potential was just too huge.
How full of crap do I look? It's awesome.

serious cuteness

While I was packing I discovered an old bandanna that I used in college to try to hide my filth. I thought it would look smart on my pooch and I was right.Note: Check out that giraffe neck.

A-hole-nonymous

Thanks to some total A-Hole who we know only as "Anonymous" all comments will now have to be approved by me and if the problem continues I may have to have all who leave comments be registered users, so people like my dear sweet mother, the kind of people I write this blog for, would have to register to leave comments. Thanks Anonymous, thanks a bunch for being a total looser with no life and nothing better to do than leave nasty comments on my little blog that I write for my friends and family.

Serenity now

Today we bought our first piece of grown-up furniture. The Petrie Sofa from Crate and Barrel:Unfortunately it will not arrive for 13-15 weeks, because we ordered it in Hydra which is a stock-plus color and must be custom built. Despite our disappointment that it will take so long to get our new sofa we are super excited about it.

Getting to know you

So as we spend more and more time with little Miss Scarlett we learn more and more about her. For example, her toes are webbed and she really likes water - evidence of her labrador ancestors. She likes to hide her bones - in the garbage, under the couch, in the laundry, behind tables, everywhere. She is a master destroyer (just toys and bones) - if it can be disasembled with her paws and teeth by golly she'll destroy it. She thinks yarn is tastey, but we have suffered no tradgedies as of yet.

We're fairly sure that she is part giraffe. Her neck measures over 5 inches long!
While her Shepard parentage accounts for a long neck, we think her's is excpetional, but of course, we're new parents, so we think everything about our baby is exceptional. She's been to the dog park and enjoys romping with other pooches once she gets to know them. She likes to take naps on the cool tile floor and snuggle with mommy and daddy in the big bed and is really good about sleeping all night in her kennel. We're so proud of our little girl.

wedding blanket

The lovely ladies in my Stitch N Bitch made us this gorgeous blanket for our wedding. Each woman did a different square (or two) using her own pattern. Some squares are knit and some crochet and all are unique and lovely. I will cherish it always and am so grateful for all of the love and care that went into its creation. It reminds me of the quilts of Gee's Bend, which I have always admired for their beauty and tradition. Now I have a little piece of my own history to wrap up in and snuggle with my new husband even when we are very old.

that's what i'm talkin' about

I always knew Emmet was a smarty-pants. Scarlett met Emmet and his doggie the other day. She had fun with both and even took an uninvited dip in the Malisch coi pond. Scarlett sure thought that Emmet tasted good, it must be the cheese.

Peaved

I am annoyed. Perhaps it is the immense amount of work I have to do for the class I am teaching. Perhaps it is because we have to move soon and I hate moving. Perhaps it is that an irresponsible dog owner and her flea ridden dog gave my little puppy fleas. Perhaps it is because it seems no one can figure out that I kept my last name and insist on stripping me of my identity. Perhaps it is because once again the temperatures are on the rise here in the south land. Or maybe it's just because every once in a while I reserve the right to be peaved.

Our Baby

We welcomed a new member to our family today. Scarlett Silverstein-Pinix is 8 months old, weighs 40lbs, and is the color of chocolate, but has distinctive red highlights in the sun (the inspiration for her name). She is a good old fashioned mutt, but is suspected to be mostly a lab/german shep mix. She is the sweetest girl and so smart. Less than 12 hours with her, and already we cannot imagine our lives without her. With mommy in her kennel. She seems to like it.
Hanging out with daddy.
