We're one year old
Today is my little blog's first birthday. Thank you to everyone for reading. Check out the first post.
It is also my brother-in-law Kevin's birthday. I won't tell you how old he is, but I will say it is his golden birthday. Happy birthday Kevin!
And finally, today is the six month anniversary of Scarlett's adoption!

good news, bad news
Good News:
It's coming! Spring 2008 Interweave Knits! And it looks CUTE!!! I really like the flutter sleeve cardigan.
Bad News:
He's leaving. John Edwards 2008. And he is GOOD!!! Let us all hope that "hope" is enough to change the world. Perhaps I can bring my old "Hot chicks dig Edwards for Vice President" button out of retirement.

Visitor!!!
My friend Tracy came all the way to Santa Fe just to visit us! Well, actually she ran this very important meeting for her big fancy company here and then stayed to hang out with us. We had a great time, enjoy the pictures:

I'm gonna knit my man a sweater
So, it is a common knitting legend that one should never knit a man whom she is not married to a sweater. It is apparently all sorts of bad luck, mojo, or karma or something. Well, now that I am married I am making my husband a sweater. I have chosen the rustic zippy man cardigan from LMKG. The sweater is supposed to be knit in beautiful Manos del Uruguay, but I am knitting it in the new and also beautiful Lamb's Pride monochromatic variegated yarn for half the price. I'm pretty psyched about it and hope it turns out. I'll keep you posted.

a sad day from green bay to santa fe
Lap Dog
When we first discussed getting a dog I wanted something small, a lap dog, something like my mom's dog Buster, but Matthew had his heart set on a bigger dog. We decided to go for a medium sized dog, with my only provision being that it be a little cuddler. Well, we got the most perfect lap dog you could ever dream of. Scarlett is such a snuggler and if you are sitting on the floor or the bed she just comes and sits all 50lbs of herself right down in your lap.
For Profit
So I have never "sold" any of my knitting before, but my hair stylist asked me if I would knit a kitty hat for her niece and I said "sure, that won't take too long." Thus, I made my first for profit knit. I traded this kitty hat for a hair cut, and I couldn't be more pleased. The pattern is adapted from the Stitch-n-Bitch adult kitty hat so that it would fit a little person. I cast on 63 stitches, made the ear-flaps 14 stitches wide and the ears 10 stitches wide. Voila! Baby Kitty Hat.

knittastic
The UPS man came while I was away working on the beast of burden otherwise known as my dissertation and it was like x-mas allover again. First he brought me my longed for perfect black boots. After literally years of looking, I finally located basic black boots that are weatherproof and skinny enough for my toothpick sized calves. Hurray for the Sudini Andover! He also brought me Georgia Warnke's Gadamer book, which I have wanted to read for forever and an amazing new knitting book: Sensual Knits by Yahaira Ferreira. It is Yummy! I love, love, love it. It just screams elegant and it has instructions for tiny sizes, which makes my narrow shoulders so happy.
Last week the UPS man brought me two of the new Harmony Guides, which were a wonderful gift from my sister-in-law and family. I have knits and purls, and cables and arans. They are so beautiful. I would love to use some of the patterns to make little baby blankets, but after the deluge of expectant mothers last year, it seems no one is reproducing at present. Come on ladies, those babies want some sisters and brothers!

my node is a witto stuppy
This is the rhinovirus, also known as the common cold. How could something so pretty make me so sick?
Update 1/8/08: Last night on Jeopardy one of the answers was "what is the rhinovirus?" and no one got it, and Alex acted all pompous like he'd of known it without the stupid card telling him the answer. Perhaps he reads my blog.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl
Our one and only little niece Evelyn Rose turned one year old today. Exactly one year ago we waited impatiently in the hospital waiting room anticipating her birth while her mommy patiently worked to bring her into the world. When we finally laid eyes on her, it was love at first sight. We only wish we could be with her to celebrate today and on Saturday for her big party!Below is a picture taken on the day she was born, above a more recent photo.
